Thatch and Its Control
Thatch and Its Control EB1117
Author(s): Roy L. Goss
Thatch is the tightly intermingled layer of partially decomposed stems, roots, leaves, and grasses that accumulate at the base of actively growing vegetation. It protects pests, restricts movement of air and water to the soil, and under hot moist conditions can produce enough heat to kill turfgrasses. Presents information on causes, removal, and prevention.
