EB1829
Author(s):
Jane Thomas, Alan Schreiber, Gary Pelter, and Dyvon Havens
Apples may have better press, but vegetable seed for world-wide production have their beginnings in Washington's distinct dry and marine climates. Many of the seed companies in Washington are represented by third generation growers, attesting to a tradition of high quality. History, business aspects, seed conditioning, and information about different crops--production acreage and value--and companies are included. Among the small-seeded crops grown here are onions, beets, oriental vegetables, radishes, carrot, parsnips, parsley, coriander, dill, arugula, broccoli raab, endive, lettuce, rapeseed, spinach, brussels sprouts, cabbage, cauliflower, collard, cress, kale, kohlrabi, rutabaga, and turnips.
