Many areas of overstocked, dense forest stands occur in private and federal forest lands in eastern Washington state. The U.S. Forest Service has developed a management program for small-diameter stands to restore ecological balance and provide sustainable forest use. Creating Opportunities (CROP) may offer management help to nonindustrial private forest landowners as well.
