Cavity Nesting Ducks
Cavity Nesting Ducks MISC0142
Author(s): Ron Shay, Woodland Fish and Wildlife Project coordinator, reviewed by Jim Bartonek, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service
Written as a practical guide for woodland owners interested in fish and wildlife management. Richly colored, the wood duck appears to have stepped from an artist's canvas. Recovering from overhunting in the early 1900s, "woodies" now are threatened by loss of wetland and riparian habitat. Nesting boxes may encourage these ducks. Placing the box carefully will protect them from predators. Cooperators for the Woodland Fish and Wildlife Project include state and federal agencies in Washington and Oregon.
