Evaluating Dairy Herd Reproductive Status Using DHI Records
WREP0067
Author(s):
David Grusenmeyer, Joe Hillers, and Grady Williams
Strong and well-managed reproductive performance is the key to a profitable dairy herd. This bulletin and the information available from DHI records will help dairy farmers 1) determine if a reproductive problem exists in the herd, 2) pinpoint the cause of poor reproductive performance, and 3) determine achievable standards for reproductive performance. The bulletin discusses the importance of dry periods, days open, days in milk, heat detection, conception rate, and calving interval. Supplemented with tables, references, and worksheets.
