Concord Grape Forecasting Models
Concord Grape Forecasting Models XB1023
Author(s): Raymond J. Folwell, Derek E. Santos, Lloyd H. Porter, and David S. Wells
This is the only WSU publication on this topic. Washington produces about 1/3 of the world's supply of Concord grapes, and produced slightly over 42 percent of the total U.S. Concord grape crop from 1986-1990. The model is developed mathematically for parameters including number of clusters/vine, number of berries/cluster, weight/100 clusters at timed intervals. It was then tested against actual recorded production. The data averaged between 7.3-11.8% accurate for normal growing years. Tables, data, and formulas are presented. The research developed objective crop forecasting techniques for theWashington Concord grape industry.
